Click on the above link to sign up for the annual Schools’ Out Pool Party. The pool party will be held on Friday, June 17 from 6-10 p.m. at the Clubhouse Pool. The party is open to residents in grades k-12. If the child is under 10 years old an adult must stay with the child. If you have any question please call 757-427-2600.

Green Run Recertifies Cub Scout Pack 598

At its December 14 meeting, the Green Run Board of Directors voted to re-certify Cub Scout Pack 598. Lisa Quillin (Committee Chair) and Scott LaFountaine (Cubmaster) head up the Pack which consists of boys in 1st through 5th grade. The Pack consists of Dens of 5 – 8 boys all in the same grade or same age. Together and individually they work on earning badges and beltloops for sports and academic achievement. Each den consists of a BSA trained Den Leader who has also passed a background check.

Green Run Announces 2010 Virginia Beach City Council Candidate Endorsements

Green Run has endorsed the following candidates for election to Virginia Beach City Council:

• Rita Sweet Bellito – (At Large)

• Tanya Bullock – (Princess Anne District)

• Bill DeSteph – (At Large)

• Louis Jones – (Bayside)

• John Uhrin – (Beach District)

• Jim Woods – (Lynnhaven)

Candidates were evaluated based on their responses to questions about issues that are important to residents of the Green Run community, including dredging of the Green Run canals, investment in community playgrounds and recreation facilities, and public safety.

Green Run Board member Eric Custer explained the importance:“Over much of our 40 year history, Virginia Beach city government largely bypassed Green Run when investing in public amenities such as recreation facilities, parks, and playgrounds. As a result, Green Run residents receive fewer city benefits than other neighborhoods across the city.”

“Renewed city investment is critical to maintaining residents’ quality of live. As Virginia Beach’s elected officials plan major investments in Town Center and the Oceanfront, it is important that they not forget about their commitment to neighborhoods, such as Green Run,” stated Chandler Scarborough, Green Run President.

Changes Coming to Dahlia and S. Independence Intersection

There are changes coming for the intersection at Dahlia Drive and S. Independence Blvd. Below outlines the they changes are going to take place.

Solicitation for construction bids will be posted in the Beacon this Sunday
Projected start date for construction will be 1/1/11
A light with a LEFT turn arrow will be installed at the intersection of Dahlia Drive for traffic turning left onto S. Independence heading towards Windsor Woods Blvd.
That same side will have the lanes marked for a dedicated straight or right turn and a dedicated left turn lane
A light with a LEFT turn arrow will also be installed at the intersection of Dahlia Drive for traffic turning left onto S. Independence heading towards Twin Canal.
This side of the the intersection will have an additional lane constructed for RIGHT turns. As the intersection is now, a left turn lane and straight lane already exist.

Special Education Workshop

Advocating 4 Kids LLC is offering a Parent training workshop for parents, care -takers and guardians of children with special needs. “Understanding the IEP Process: A Workshop To Assist Parents and Guardians On How To Create Effective And Child Centered IEPs“, workshop will provide parents will information on how to effectively advocate for the services that are specific to their child’s learning needs at IEP meetings. Cheryl A Poe, owner of Advocating 4 Kids LLC, will provide the direct training, other local providers will be at hand to share their resources.

New Member Night – Green Run Cub Scout Pack 598

Cub Scout Pack 598 invites all boys ion the Green Run area to come and check out what we are all about! They will get to see some of the activities we have planned for the year, learn about meetings and watch our boys receive some awards they are waiting in. It is held on September 27, 21010 at the Green Run Clubhouse starting at 6:30 pm. They can watch for an invite that will come home with all, boys 1st – 5th grade the week of 20th.
